And the Cry of Battle Never Dies
by Tammy Balfour

The battlefield is waiting,
The soldiers are quiet,
Until the hornurg blows,
And the cry of battle never dies.

The flags flick in the wind,
The horses shift aside,
Men wait for the order,
And the cry of battle never dies.

The wind sweeps a death,
The wolf howl echoes
Still, the men dare not move
And the cry of battle never dies.

The enemy shifts,
The plans are made,
Now, here comes the siege
And the cry of battle never dies.

Stones crack the walls,
Fire and arrows fly
Tactics begin to unfold
And the cry of battle never dies.

The castle gate lifts,
Phalanx crowd the opening,
The bloodshed will soon begin
And the cry of battle never dies.

Weapons are thrown,
Shields are splintered,
Men fall to the sword
And the cry of battle never dies.

Torn flags flick in wind
Enemy cavalry flee
As the defenders follow like bloodhounds
And the cry of battle never dies.

Fallen heroes are burnt in honour,
But the enemy king's skull,
Sits tight upon a pike,

And the cry of battle never dies.

A Piece of Heaven
by Holly Imms

Roaming through the paddocks,
I am welcomed by the cool breeze
That whispers in my ear.
Whilst the cattle head to the dairy.

Patchworked hills surround me
As spring awakens.
The flowers bloom
In the sunlight.

A tired sun sinks behind the mountains,
As a cold night chill draws closer.
An ancient moon is rising
High up in the velvet sky.

Trees slowly dance
With the cool breeze.
As I watch from my bedroom window,
The stars wink at me.

Merry birds sing their songs
As the dawn breaks.
Sparkling dew covers the paddocks.
This is a piece of heaven.
