Flood
by Janeen Brian
If a flood can ignore important signs like
no standing and one hour parking
and enter a person's home without knocking
and, without a broom, sweep out
life's photographs
so that images are changed forever,
then it can easily ignore
the cry of a child,
whose hand
loses grip with
another.
The Moon
by Genevieve Sinclair
the moon is low in the gunmetal sky
she stares at me, stares through me
between the branches of the gum
as if she knew me well, and long since
has tired of me. she glances down
at the orange lights on the building site
bare and bright in the night
she sees that scar on her cousin's skin
and she glares at me, glares through
me
