The Sorrow Box
by Liam Garton
St Joseph’s School, North Ipswich, Qld
In my dark and sad box
I will put....
The screams of a weeping mother
The wailing of a sad child
The fading light of a dying star
My box is made of black and gold
Trimmed in silver basilisk scales
And glows a dull silver
Reflecting off the purest glass lid
Nightmares, webbed in the comers of my box
Like kindle for a horrible black frame
In my box I sit crying endlessly
Not stemming the flow of my tears for they only start back up again
Magic Shows
by Luke Swanson
Peak Crossing State School, Peak Crossing, Qld
Magic Shows are heaps of fun,
Everyone groans when the show is done.
Pull a rabbit out of a hat,
Then quickly stand on a magic mat.
Spin the boxes round and round
Open one up and look at what you’ve found.
There’s no one in the box anymore,
The magician starts to count to four.
Magically the assistant reappears,
And then he suddenly disappears.
Moving on to the next illusion,
The crowd is thrown into confusion.
Doves go flying and rabbits go hopping,
And out of the blue bubbles go popping.
The magician vanishes into thin air
A voice whispers, “Come again if you dare!”
Butterflies
by Danika Gebhardt
Caningeraba State Schoool, Burleigh Waters, Qld
Beautiful Butterflies flying around
Their wings so quiet never making a sound.
They are so very pretty, so dainty and so free,
You should never ever touch them,
Just look and let them be.
