Winning
by Tahniae Hale-Reeve

Burning Chest
Aching feet
Mouth as dry as sand paper
The salty taste of sweat on my lips
Crossing the line first
Worth the work.
Colours of the Sun
by Samuel Cujes
Chapel Hill State School, Chapel Hill, Qld
Silhouettes of navy blue
I see them out of my window
Gold, apricot, peach and pink
Making a light beyond.
When the sun is up
The sun is like a shiny bulb,
A bright light in the sky
The colours of the day
Sapphire, yellow and pale blue.
The sun’s going down
I can see orange,
Purpley-pink and aubergine.
The colours of the sun sneak away
To find another place to stay.
Australian Babies
by Megan Humphreys
Mount Crosby State School, Mount Crosby, Qld
I'm a little platypus, ready to come out
of mummy's warm, comfy house.
Scratching at the mud that's in my way,
plop into the water, swim away.
I'm a little joey, ready to come out
of mummy's warm, comfy , pouch.
Wriggling from the bottom, coming to the top,
out I come, hoppity, hop, hop.
I'm a little wombat, ready to come out
of mummy's warm, backwards pouch.
Wriggle, wriggle, back I fall,
hop on four legs, crawl, crawl, crawl.
