Metrophobia – Fear or hatred of poetry
by Joshua Garvey,
West Moreton Anglican College, Karrabin, Qld
“Why not?” I asked one afternoon to challenge the English norm,
to write a poem of loath or fear of poems of any form,
“Why not?” I said to Ms Wollaston could I not rhyme with quiver,
“Banjo Patterson writes, in his words of rhyme, The Man from Snowy River,”
But back to the big word, Metrophobia, giggle you may at its name,
it only rhymes with Zenobia, a Queen of little Fame,
I could weave you a tale of other such things,
of men and mice or hobbits and rings,
but copyright laws would hand me the blame,
alas, my remorse goes to the ones who fear,
even the most exciting poems of the year,
I would glance at them sideways, as if to leer,
but by God they would get a hiding if I was to hear,
that they did not like anything by Shakespeare!
I think I will close this abysmal piece with little deeper meaning,
save for of course the title, but I think it still needs preening.
