Haunted
by Julian Raven
West Moreton Anglican College, Karrabin, Qld
He prowls through the corridors, looking for a prize,
Anything living suits his greedy eyes,
He finds a specimen, puts on his disguise,
Entices it to follow into a web of lies
Little Johnny was only 4 years young
He was a guitar string waiting to be strung
One day he found the truth and something deep down sprung
Little Johnny was only 4 years young
He failed to comply with the expectations made of him
Pushing his fake father over the brim
One day “daddy " took him for a swim
He failed to comply with the expectations made of him
He was scared and alone and frightened in this new place
Water all about him, enough light to see his face
He tried to escape and “daddy” gave chase
But the man was too old to keep up the pace
He makes up his mind to find his mother
The real one not the deceitful other
The only one left is his elder brother
The rest of his family couldn’t bear to suffer
He’s stricken with grief but now he’s committed
He has to make right the crime omitted
Retrace his steps to the man who granted
Him the life that is so haunted
By the ghosts of his past
