Disruptive Night
by Loc Nguyen
Darra State School, Darra, Qld
Disruptive Night
Crashing thunder
pandemonium and uproar
terrorising my little brother during the night
as he hides under the blanket.
A fugitive in my bed.
The Magic Box
by James Shegog
Trebonne State School, Trebonne, Qld
I will put in the box
The whisper of the wind on a cold winter night
A big brave tiger chasing a baboon
The petal of a rose that I gave to my mum
I will put in the box
The soft dust from the moon that was on a rocket
A dinosaur tooth from a cereal box
An old bullet from the First World War
I will put in the box
The sweet smell of a beautiful rose
The first mouth full of water from breakneck falls
And the last bark from an old dog
I will put in the box
A purple moon and a pink sun
An astronaut surfing on the moon
And a bull riding a cowboy in a rodeo
My box is crafted from silver, stone and steel
With rainbows on the lid and mysteries in the corners
Its hinges are made from the gold at the end of the rainbow
I will roam in my box through the Amazon jungle
Then find a new world with wonders unknown
Fixing Fences
by Fletcher Apel
Mt Tom, Qld
Pulling up fences
with dad;
snap
snap
snap
goes the rusty wires,
snap
snap
snap
goes dad's pliers.
Bend
Twist
tighten…
Snap!
