Strawberry is…
by Nikita Rahman
Junction Park State School, Annerley, Qld

A little face, with lush, green hair, staring at me, just waiting to be
Eaten. Hold the red raindrop in your hand, and suddenly, you are
Running on a never-ending rocky road. Lift the strawberry to your
Nose, now you are in a candy shop that goes on forever...

Cut your sparkling ruby in half, length-wise, and then there's a glow,
Like a new born sun. Rub your finger on the inside, and you are a
Dolphin, swimming in the endless ocean...

Your tiny teardrop is a glittering firework that shines all day long. If
You listen very closely, you can hear an autumn leaf, fluttering like a
Butterfly, in the cool breeze…

One bite of the strawberry and you are in your own cotton-candy
Land and all of your thoughts suddenly vanish...

The strawberry is more than it seems..

Why Do We
by Krystal Hallam
Captain Creek, Qld

Why
why is the night so clear
and dark and gloomy
why do we dream dreams
of nightmares
why do we sing if we cant
why do people say im fine
knowing there not
why do people stare into space
and they dream with eyes opened

100 in 1
by Isabel Bosman
St Mary’s College, Ipswich, Qld

He doesn’t know I’m watching,
Nobody does,
Fake moustaches, itchy wigs, glass eyes.
Normal everyday items that are anything but.
I’ve seen emotions that I cannot even begin to describe
Death,
Life,
Betrayal,
And once
Even love
The greatest of all.
I am a hat who is 100 different people in 1.

Like a Chainsaw Cutting a Little Grain of Sand
by Charlotte Schmidt
Trinity Lutheran College, Ashmore, Qld

Slapped, hurt, it is not allowed,
Ignored, suffered, she was never proud.
Working as a servant, night and day,
cleaning and ironing, for a little pay.
Hugely punished, for using her left hand,
Like a chainsaw, cutting a little grain of sand!

Creature
by Tia Adermann
Collingwood Park State School, Collingwood Park, Qld

Dark was the day, cloudy was the sky
Bursting with noise was the school
Suddenly there was a change in the mist
Everything became eerie and quiet
Shouts were silenced
Loud voices became little whispers that were hardly heard
The ground shakes, rocks jump with every step
People shiver, people squeal as they see the shadow
Red fiery eyes watch as an evil smile curves along the face
The scar from eye to cheek turns fiery red
Wild crows are falling from the sky
Creatures flee and hide
Students flee to the parking lot where furious machines sleep
Every now and then, there’s one left behind
They freeze in their tracks as the furious machines awake
and beam their lights
In that split second their number lessens
The students vanish, nowhere to be seen
There are many legends about this vicious creature
But it’s in disguise and we only know it by its human name -
Mrs Meanmill, our own Year 6 class teacher
