Stage Fright
by Liam Plumpton
Citipointe Christian College, Carindale, Qld

“Your turn!” - those scary words.
Stomach tight.
Don’t want to hear..
Don’t want to hear that creepy phrase

Walk nervously on stage.
Hesitantly begin to play
Praying for help all the time.
Almost done….
Almost done….

Finished!
Just need to bow.
No more embarrassment!
Sitting down…..realizing
No mistakes.

Mum and Dad congratulate
Relief washes over.
“I did it!” to Mum.
Conquered fear.

The Flood
by Caitlin Williamson
Citipointe Christian College, Carindale, Qld

The tragedy hit
on a beautiful day...
The wall of water
washed our town away.

It broke people’s hearts
When they couldn’t stay,
Children cried, confused, as
They had to go away.

Mother Nature’s anger
Released on the helpless land
The flood washed away hope
With the houses and land.

Looking for loved ones
So many missing or dead;
After the water had passed
A massive cleanup was ahead.

A new life starts again
Happily we are strong
We can do anything; this work
will be done before long.

With God by our side,
As together we all stand,
We are not weak because
we are people of this land.

What the Sea Knows
by Katie Bell
West Moreton Anglican College, Karrabin, Qld

I want to know what the sea knows
How to flood the world with wonder
Or how the coral flows to and fro
I want to know what the sea can be
Calm and still, then loud and brutal
I want to know what the ocean holds
How it stores its treasures away
Or how some of the most fierce creatures
Can be gentle and mysterious
I want to know what the sea knows

My Family
by Jessica Deas
St Joseph’s Primary School. North Ipswich, Qld

My family is a friendly bunch,
We love to have people over for lunch.
My mum's a great cook,
She doesn’t even use a recipe book.
We have pets galore,
They will greet you at the door
Slim and Dusty love a pat,
Some say Slim's a bit fat.
Come over to our house for a swim or a play
You never know you might want to stay.

Autumn
by Delaram Sani Kermani
Raceview State School, Raceview, Qld

Orange, brown, yellow and red leaves
Falling swiftly from a huge tree
They sparkle in the sunlight.
Hear the crackle of leaves whoosh through my ear.
Squirrels, birds and baby bears
All tucked up in a quiet, warm place nearby
Pitter, patter.
Softly, rain falls and refreshes.
The welcome rain revives the hard dry ground.
The cool breeze flowing through my nose, cooling me
Peace, lightening my body.
Autumn is here!
