Speaking About Sponsors
by Robert Raftery
Written for the Ipswich
Poetry Feast Opening Celebrations
Sunday 17 November 2002
Often overlooked, sometimes
ignored, neglected of mention and put to the sword,
Seldom extolled, lightly accorded, born to the back stage where they are rarely
rewarded,
Sponsors
But not at the opening of Ipswich's Poetry Feast where sponsors are so delighted
they'll think that they're blessed.
Well
where would
we be without the Q.T?.. The Queensland Times,
Where we rarely have to sling the editor to publish our rhymes,
And without R.T. Edwards
as
we head towards
2003,
We'd be a bit light on fridges
CD's
DVD's
colour TV's.
There'd be little to look at
for the likes of "you's" and "me's."
And that state of nervousness
if we didn't have Ipswich Waste
Services,
Imagine.. our industrial bins.. chockers
we'd all go clear off our rockers,
And our Ross Llewellyn Motors
with
their mighty Holden's and Toyota's,
Inspired
fill their quotas
an auto-dealing ace,
Pumped with pride in place
from their sparkling Ipswich Base.
So let's celebrate the Sponsors of this special event,
Show them that they're special and that their money was well spent.
