Online Poetry Writing Workshops for Students

Assist your students in developing their poetry writing skills in preparation for entry into the competition by participating in a free online workshop.

Participate in online creative poetry master classes with some of Australia's leading poets.These workshops help students to develop valuable poetry writing skills, regardless of their geographical location.

A special School Encouragement Award is presented to the school whose participation in the competition most reflects a genuine commitment to, and engagement with, the spirit of the Ipswich Poetry Feast.

2017 Online Workshop with Lorraine Marwood

Time: 9.15 am - 10.30 am
Year Level: 3 - 6

In this interactive session, Lorraine will work with primary students on a variety of approaches to writing poetry. There will be a chance for students to brainstorm ideas and themes, use their five senses to create word banks to provide extra dollops of colour, flavour, texture and taste to their writing and most importantly, find out for themselves that poetry can be fun!

A link will be sent to all schools that register to participate in the workshop. This link will open at 8.45 am on the morning of the workshop for testing purposes.

About Lorraine Marwood

Lorraine was once a headmaster of a little rural school, a dairy farmer, has raised six children, taught adult literacy as well as ESL, loves to read and LOVES to write poetry as well as prose.

Lorraine has published 4 poetry collections with Walker books and 2 verse novels. She has 2 Aussie Nibbles with Penguin Books and several educational books. She loves to write and design strategies that teach and encourage others to write poetry. Her latest book is 'Celebrating Australia, a year in poetry.' Her verse novel 'Star jumps' won the Prime Minister's literary award for children's literature in 2010.

Her techniques are sure-fire and will show what poetry is and how to have fun producing poems!
