Junk Dragon by Luka Zubcic (Highly Commended)

Joy to ride a junkyard dragon
rescued from his scrapheap sty –
toasters, fans and barrow wagons,
bound and learning how to fly.

Watch this gross amalgamation
chortle to the stratosphere –
fragments flying in formation,
laughing through the old frontier.

Now his aluminium armour
shimmers with the rising sun –
joy is not in keeping karma,
joy is when the welding’s done.
