Dementia, the Demon with a Sneeze by Ingrid Mason (First Prize)

Happiness by Kenneth Weaver (Second Prize)

How do you measure happiness?
Is it the dissection of an emotional moment?
Or should we wait to the end
And have our lives weighed on a mortuary slab?

Will they say I had a happy life?

How do you measure happiness?
Do we lay out our things for crass calculation?
Should we subtract the sad, bad, and melancholic times
And cancel out all those in between days?

Will they say I had a happy life?

How do you measure happiness?
Do I dare to pretend I even care?
Is it a foolish folly of the way too comfortable man,
A parlour game of the ignorant and self-obsessed?

Will they say I had a happy life?

Give me the chance to be,
More than the sum of my past.
